Course Objectives
To provide basic knowledge of the structure and function of
the hman body and the relationship of drug effects on a specific
body system.
To create an awareness of the physical and emotional changes
associated with the aging process.
To provide a basic knowledge of drugs, their actions, uses,
and desired and adverse effects.
To assist the student to develop knowledge and skill in
preparing, administering, and recording specific
medications.
To provide knowledge of medical terminology, recognized
abbreviations and symbols relative to drug therapy.
To create an awareness of the legal and ethical
responsibilities involved in drug administration.
Course Length
80 hours divided:
40 hours theory with modules utilizing step approach
8 hours classroom lab with competency testing as validated by
use of skills sheets
32 hours, in consecutive 8 hour blocks, of practical
experience with one-to-one supervision
