Dr. Drake Carter, BSC associate vice
president for academic affairs, will be the
college’s next provost and vice president for
academic affairs. He will succeed Dr. Wayne
Boekes, who is retiring June 30.
BSC President Larry C. Skogen selected
Carter for the position in February after a
national search.
Carter, a 20-year employee of BSC, joined
the faculty in 1987 as an assistant professor
of biology, and continued to teach full-time
until 1999. He became associate professor
in 1993. He served as Biology Department
chairperson, and later as acting chairperson
of the Department of Physical, Biological
and Health Sciences. In 1999, Carter was
named dean of instructional services at BSC
after a national search. He held that position
until his promotion to associate vice president
in 2004.
Carter holds a bachelor of science degree
in education, with a major in zoology, from
Eastern Illinois University, Charleston. He
earned a master of science degree and doctorate
in zoology from North Dakota State University.
