Course Description: In a series of nine modules, this course will define the NERC reliability standards and requirements for planning and operating the North American bulk electric system. The NERC Reliability Standards define the functions that need to be performed to ensure the bulk electric system operates reliably. This course is a complete review of the fourteen currently approved NERC standard sections containing more than one hundred individual standards.

Each module covers specific training items listed below:

  • BAL - Resource and Demand Balancing
  • CIP - Critical Infrastructure Protection
  • COM-Communications
  • EOP -Emergency Preparedness and Operations
  • INT - Interchange Scheduling and Coordination
  • IRO - Interconnection Reliability Operations and Coordination
  • ORG -Organization Certification
  • PER - Personnel Performance, Training, and Qualifications
  • TOP/VAR -Transmission Operations/Voltage and Reactive
  • Engineering Standards:
    • FAC -Facilities Design, Connections and Maintenance
    • PRC - Protection and Control
    • MOD -Modeling, Data, and Analysis
    • TPL - Transmission Planning

What are the course advantages? BSC's NERC Standards Training course is 100% online with access anytime and anywhere. The instructors are from the industry and have relevant knowledge for the learners. Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to use Interactive Learning Tools in the enhanced online lessons. This course fulfills the NERC mandated, 30 hour Standards Training requirement.

Who should participate? The course is intended to be a review for current NERC Certified System Operators and Reliability Coordinators who desire to fulfill the NERC requirements for 30 CE hours every 3 years.

What are the online course elements? This course is instructor-led, asynchronous, and completely online. Students learn from and participate in, threaded discussions, self-check exercises, video/audio and text based lectures, quizzes, animations and graphics. Instructors provide feedback on students' completed exams and answer students' questions in the discussion areas and through email. Student participation in discussion areas is encouraged as it enhances the quality of learning for all participants.

How do students and companies register? Both individual and group registrations are available.

Individuals will be contacted by email within 3 days after registration. They will be provided with directions, student ID and password at that time. Please call (701) 224-5764 if you do not receive this information by the class start date. A certificate of completion will be mailed to the address on record upon completion of the course. The company contact person will be contacted by email within 3 days after registration with a list of registered students from that company. The registered students will be contacted by email with the directions, student IDs and passwords at that time. When do students participate and complete the course work? The course contains 30 hours of content and will take a maximum of 60 full days to complete the course requirements. More time is allowed with instructor approval. Students are provided a login and password to enter the course online.

How many NERC CEH Hours will I receive? Upon successful completion, you will receive 30 Hours to meet NERC Standard Training requirements. Unsuccessful completion all modules will result in fewer or no CE hours. A certificate will be mailed to each participant after completion.

How much does it cost? The cost per student is $420.00 ($14.00 per CEH). Individuals must pay by credit card or prior billing arrangements need to be made by calling (701) 224-5764. Company Group Registration may pay by credit card or be invoiced. Invoices will be sent to the contact person.

What is the course schedule? The course is scheduled from January 1 - June 30 and July 1 - December 31. The students may register for the courses at anytime before May 1 for the January - June Session and November 1 for the July 1 - December 31 Session. The student will have access to the material within 3 working days after registration and will have access to the course for 60 days.

What is the cancellation policy if I am unable to attend? Refunds granted at the participant's request will incur a $15 processing fee per class, to be deducted from the amount refunded. All refunds are made by mail unless paid with a credit card; in which case the card is credited. Please allow four weeks to process refunds. If cancellation is requested after the online course is accessed or less than one week prior to the course end date, no refund is available. Full refunds are guaranteed if BSC Energy Technology Division cancels a course.
