Course Description: This course will familiarize students with today's electrical industry. The course will begin looking at the history of the industry and at those who played major roles in its creation, development and structure. The course will familiarize students with the three sectors of the industry and the roles of each. Lastly the course will touch on deregulation, new technology and what the future appears to hold.

Who should participate? This course is designed for new hire orientation and employee training programs for all positions in utility companies, including managers, engineers, technicians, non-technical staff, and anyone else interested in learning an overview of the electrical industry.

What are the online course elements? This course is a self-paced course that is completely online without an instructor. Students learn from video/audio and text based lectures, self-check quizzes, animation and graphic elements. The unit self-check quizzes are designed to provide feedback so that each student may assess their own progress and identify topics upon which to focus.

When do students participate and complete the course work? The course contains about 6 hours of content and students are given four weeks (until midnight MST on the last access date) to complete the course requirements. If more time is needed, please contact Alicia Berger at Alicia.Berger@bsc.nodak.edu. The course is open all year with open registration at all times. Students are provided a login and password to enter the course online. Company training supervisors may provide additional requirements, such as scheduled training times and activities.

College credit is not available for this course.

How do students and companies register? Both individual and group registrations are available.

Individuals will be contacted by email within 5 working days after registration. They will be provided with directions, student ID and password at that time. Please call (701) 224-5764 if you do not receive this information within 5 days. The company contact person will be contacted by email 5 working days after registration with a list of registered students from that company. The registered students will be contacted by email 5 working days after registration with the directions, student IDs and passwords at that time. Please call (701) 224-5764 if you do not receive this information within 5 days.

How much does it cost? The course fee is $140.00 per student. Individuals must pay by credit card or prior billing arrangements need to be made by calling (701)224-5764. Company Group Registration may pay by credit card or be invoiced. Invoices will be sent to the contact person.

What is the cancellation policy if I am unable to attend? Refunds granted at the participant's request will incur a $15 processing fee per class, to be deducted from the amount refunded. All refunds are made by mail unless paid with a credit card; in which case the card is credited. Please allow four weeks to process refunds. If cancellation is requested after the online course is accessed or less than one week prior to the course end date, no refund is available. Full refunds are guaranteed if BSC Energy Technology Division cancels a course.
