Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (BSC)

Bismarck State College offers a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in Energy Management. The BAS is designed for individuals interested in supervisory and management positions in the energy industry. BSC graduates from the Process Plant Technology, Power Plant Technology, Electric Power Technology, Nuclear Power Technology, or Electrical Transmission Systems Technology programs are eligible to apply for the BAS program. The BAS builds on the foundation laid in an AAS degree and includes General Education classes, Core Management courses and Energy Specific Management courses. The BAS in Energy Management is offered entirely online.

Transfer of Credits from BSC

Students who intend to transfer to a four-year institutions are strongly advised to visit with representatives of that institution to assure that their program of study at BSC is suitable for transfer. Transfer of credits from BSC is normally a smooth process for students who have followed suggested curricular guidelines of BSC and the institution to which they will transfer. However, if at any time students encounter a problem with transfer of BSC credits to another institution, they are encouraged to contact the vice president of instruction and student services at BSC. Questions about General Education Requirements Transfer Agreement courses should be directed to the registrar.

Transfer Articulation Agreements

Bismarck State College has entered into transfer articulation agreements with several four-year institutions. The purpose of transfer articulation agreements is to provide a smooth transition from one related degree program to another. The following agreements pertain to the degrees that are offered online at BSC.

Dickinson State University (North Dakota)
Dickinson State University offers two Baccalaureate completion degree programs in online format. The two programs are the Bachelor of University Studies (BUS), a liberal arts completion degree program, and the Bachelor of Applied Science in Technology (BAST). An Associate of Applied Science degree from an accredited institution must be completed before being accepted into the BAST program.

Minot State University (North Dakota)
Minot State University now offers the Bachelor of Applied Science degree (areas of study in Business Information Technology, General Studies, and Management) in an online format. Students who have earned an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree from BSC, and have met the general education requirements for an Associate in Arts (AA) or an Associate in Science (AS) degree, will need only an additional 42 semester credit hours to receive the BAS from Minot State University. All courses from MSU are offered on-campus or online.

DeVry University (Illinois)
DeVry offers a Bachelor of Science in Technical Management (BSTM) in a completely online format. Graduates of the BSC power plant technology, process plant technology, and electric power technology AAS programs would need an additional 62 semester credit hours (42 of which must be taken from DeVry) to earn the BSTM. Those students who complete the BSTM degree may also be eligible for admission into specified graduate programs at Keller Graduate School of Management (also online).

Peirce College (Pennsylvania)
This agreement allows recipients of the AA degree from BSC to be granted“junior” standing at Peirce. Recipients of the AAS degree in power plant or process plant technology are awarded 18 credits. All Peirce classes needed for the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration are offered online.

Capella University (Minnesota)
Graduates of BSC ’s AA degree program, and students who have earned the AAS degree and have completed the necessary general education requirements of the AA or AS degree at BSC, would need an additional 60 semester hours from Capella to earn the Bachelor of Science degree. All courses from Capella are offered online.

Minnesota State University – Moorhead (Minnesota)
This agreement allows recipients of the power plant technology and process plant technology AAS degrees to continue on in Moorhead ’s Industrial Technology Bachelor of Science degree program. This program is currently available on-campus at Moorhead and is not offered online.
