FACTS ABOUT CLEP AND MILITARY PERSONNEL
As of February 16, 2004, military personnel have been able to take CLEP exams without paying the exam fee at any college campus that has an open testing center. Most colleges do however charge a non-refundable registration fee that must be paid by military personnel themselves.
Defense Activity for Non-Traditional Education Support (DANTES) funds CLEP exams for eligible military service members to assist military personnel in meeting their educational goals.
CLEP exams are funded by the military for members of the following groups:
Military personnel (Active Duty and Reserve) - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard, Army Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Navy Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army and Air National Guard
Eligible civilian employees and spouses of participating Reserve Component and Coast Guard personnel
Department of Defense Acquisition Personnel (only eligible for the following computer-based exams: Principles of Macroeconomics, Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Marketing)
FACTS ABOUT CLEP EXAMINATIONS
- Each institution sets its own CLEP policy regarding how much credit it will grant and for what exams.
- Scores from CLEP exams taken at one testing center can automatically be sent to the institution of your choice.
- CLEP exams are administered throughout the year.
- CLEP examinations are 90 minutes long.
- CLEP exams are administered on computer.
- Exams are composed of multiple choice or fill-in questions.
- CLEP uses a "Rights-Only Scoring" format. There is no penalty for guessing.
- Scores are received immediately upon completion of the exam.
- CLEP exams may be retaken after 6 months.
- There are 35 different CLEP Exams available to take.
